DIY Tutorials

This page will walk you through how to fix your Beams of Light Menorah. Watch the step-by-step video below, or follow the written instructions below!

DIY socket replacement

Part 1: Remove the old socket

  1. Lay the fixture down so the end you're working on is easy to reach. Unscrew all the screws holding the end socket to the aluminum profile, and keep them safe for reuse.
  2. Pull the old socket housing (the small grey box) off the end of the profile.

Part 2: Connect the wires to the new socket

  1. Plug the first wire into either hole on the new socket (wire colors don't matter). Grip the wire near its tip for leverage, then push until it's fully connected.
  2. Repeat with the second wire in the other hole, again holding it close to the end and pushing until fully seated.

Part 3: Reinstall the socket

  1. Slide the socket into the end of the profile, Check the end of the profile to make sure no wire is pinched, sticking out, or caught between the socket and the profile.
  2. Line up the angles. Install with the bulb facing up and the angles of the two ends of the branch facing each other, like this: /--\
  3. Start every screw in its hole without tightening, so the parts stay loose enough to adjust.
  4. Press the box firmly until it's fully installed on the branch.
  5. Once everything is aligned and seated, tighten all the screws, working across them so the joint sits evenly.

DIY Bracket replacement

Part 1: Remove the old bracket
  • Remove the old screws. Unscrew the screws holding the old bracket to the aluminum profile. Set them aside where they won’t roll away.
  • Cut the old wire. Cut the wire leading to the old bracket with pliers or a knife, leaving enough length on the fixture side to work with. The old bracket can now come off.
Part 2: Prepare the wires
  • Strip the old wires. Remove a short length of insulation from the end of each wire coming out of the fixture so the bare metal is exposed. Tools make this step easier, but possible without.
  • Strip the replacement bracket’s wires too. Do the same on the wire attached to the new bracket.
Part 3: Connect the wires
  • Match the colors. Hold the old and new wire ends together so each color lines up with the same color on the other side.
  • Twist each pair together. Twist the bare ends of each matching pair tightly so they make solid contact. (for tips see below YouTube videos)
  • Cover each connection with tape. Wrap electrical tape around each twisted joint so no bare wire is exposed. Do each joint separately so the wires don’t touch each other.
Part 4: Feed the wires into the profile
  • Insert one color at a time, all the way into the hole. Push each taped wire into the hole in the profile, one wire at a time, as far as it will go. Take your time and slowly push them in, there is enough space.
  • Insert the remaining wire. Once the others are in, feed in whichever wire is left.
Part 5: Attach the new bracket
  • Line up the T-nuts to the holes in the bracket. The T-nuts sit in the profile’s channel. Slide them so they sit directly behind the bracket’s mounting holes.
  • Insert the screws, but don’t fully tighten yet. Start each screw through the bracket into its T-nut and turn it just enough to hold. Leaving them loose lets you shift the bracket in the next step.
  • Line up the brackets. Check that the bracket is straight and in the right position. make sure the two sides match up with each other.
  • Tighten the screws. Once everything is aligned, tighten all the screws firmly.
